I really liked him. He was wildly underrated.

Re: Robert Green Retires From Football
He was fantastic during the Great Escape.
Didn't he save 2 penalties in that 9 game run-in?

WILDLY underrated?

Re: Robert Green Retires From Football
Excellent keeper. When he joined us, he was the best we had since Phil Parkes.

His outstanding performance at The Emirates, in the great escape season, is still a stand out West Ham goalkeeping memory, for me.

Never recovered, from that World Cup howler though.

Eerie - I think so, yes. You'll find plenty on here who think he was shit, when really he was quietly brilliant. Didn't seem to gel with the fans like the likes of Adrian, which I don't think helped.

England fans never really rated him either - and that was before the USA game.

Re: Robert Green Retires From Football
for about 18 months he was great, pretty much as good as any in the league, by the time England clocked he was already on the decline and he was never the same. Seemed to have the mental strength of bolty which probably didn't help him.

Re: Robert Green Retires From Football
Wildly underrated would be to suggest we had Lev Yashin on the books and treated him like Allan McKnight.

The truth, as always, is in between. He wasn't shit, but he also wasn't as brilliant as you say, he was a good goalkeeper that had some brilliant days. You get what you deserve if you're a truly brilliant player; he he left us to join QPR.

Re: Robert Green Retires From Football
Was good for us and probably deserved more England caps but the way he moaned like a little bitch about it was a bit cunty I thought. Like David James he'll probably have few fans despite being one of our better players over the years. Both a bit unlikeable really.

Re: Robert Green Retires From Football
Fabio should never have done that to him at the WC.

Always liked Greeno, was good for us. Binned us off for a load of dough to sit on the QPR bench though, didn't he?

Re: Robert Green Retires From Football
Excellent keeper.... as proven by his England call up for us... was as much to do with us staying up as was Tevez and Bobby... only down point was me receiving about 100 text messages after his howler v the USA in the WC... but otherwise... yeah decent player for us

Never forget how good he was against Arsenal, when Zamora scored that lob.

Probably the best keeper display I've seen.

Re: Robert Green Retires From Football
Did pretty well for someone who once said, "I don't like football".

Great stopper. Seemed like a nice guy.

But always played like a depressed dog.

Re: Robert Green Retires From Football
really good keeper whose international career got ruined by one bad game ; see also Scott Carson
.

Re: Robert Green Retires From Football
Did a good job for us and seemed a good bloke.
He left for QPR as they gave him £2m as a signing on fee.

His treatment by Capello was disgraceful
One mistake doesn’t make your number 1 unselectable
Especially if you then pick Joe Hart who made endless mistakes.
